Winter's a comin'

I installed this old Ikea curtain rod behind the door to our storage room. It is right off the entry so we have extra coats and shoes in the closet in here as well.  It allows me to quickly see and find a matching pair of gloves. It also has the advantage of being able to air out wet mittens so they are good to go for the next round of snowman construction.

This particular curtain rod ring allows me to pinch a clothes pin. I got out the pliers and really mashed it into the wood so it won't slip out. As you can see, this is an old curtain rod. It's rusty, and consequently, it's been demoted from curtain duty. I am a strong believer in finding the studs when installing rods and shelves (or at least using anchors for one side). That is why the left side is snug against the door jam and so there is no room for a finial. That's all right for here because no one Ever sees it in this location. This would also work with S-hooks and binder clips to hold the bulkier mitts. Or, use a zip tie to hold a binder clip.
This has worked for me and my two girls for a few years now. We also use a bin in the closet for the bulkier
it's-minus-30-out mittens.
Stay warm. Stay cozy.
